Tom Brady and Patriots Win Super Bowl LIII

Super Bowl LIII Recap: Defense Wins Championships

Today we saw the New England Patriots win their second Super Bowl in three years.

We saw the difference in how they won it, however. In the previous two Super Bowls, their offense ran the show. But in the same season where everyone said offense would win championships, we have a 13-3 Super Bowl.

The Patriots’ offense finally was good in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points, and sealing the game. But it was a 3-0 game at halftime. Today the second-best offense in the league got defeated by a slightly better than mediocre defense due to Bill Belichick’s smarts and him utilizing his players’ skill.

The Rams needed to go to the run game earlier and use it on about 45-55% of their plays. Their best player on offense, Todd Gurley, was on the sideline most of the game. This mean that their offense was less explosive than all season.

The Rams were not built for this kind of defensive battle.

I will give a shout-out to the Pats because they game-planned exactly right. Julian Edleman deserved the MVP award for his 141 receiving yards. He was the reason the Patriots could keep milking the clock and tire out the Rams’ defense while re-energizing their own.

That’s all I have to say about this one, except that the score looked a lot closer than it really was. The Pats owned this game.
